Hsinchu, Taiwan, June 10, 2026 — Microelectronics Technology Inc. (MTI), G REIGNS (an HTC company), and Sateo Inc (dba Microcom) today announced the successful integration and laboratory validation of an end-to-end Open RAN solution
developed under the NTIA Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund (PWSCIF) NOFO2 program, which aims to promote wireless innovation, foster competition, and enhance supply chain resilience. The effort supports program objectives to advance open, interoperable, and secure wireless network technologies and to promote deployment-ready Open RAN solutions.
The integrated system incorporates key elements of the Open RAN architecture across multiple vendors. MTI provided the radio units (RU). G REIGNS developed and integrated the distributed unit (DU) and centralized unit (CU) components. Microcom, a communications service provider based in Alaska, participated as the end user and deployment partner, contributing operational requirements and deployment considerations reflective of real-world service environments.
The project team established a controlled laboratory environment to evaluate system performance and functionality under representative conditions. End-to-end testing validated core network and radio access functions, including call processing, mobility management, and service continuity.
Performance evaluation was conducted in alignment with Innovation Fund NOFO2 program requirements. The system demonstrated compliance with key performance indicators, including throughput, latency, and reliability, across a range of traffic scenarios. These results support readiness for continued optimization and progression toward field deployment.
RF testing confirmed that MTI’s radio units meet applicable output power, spectral, and signal quality requirements. Integration with G REIGNS’ CU/DU components was achieved without observable degradation in RF performance, demonstrating effective interoperability within a multi-vendor Open RAN environment.
Security capabilities were implemented and assessed across all system layers. The solution incorporates industry-standard security mechanisms, including authentication, encryption, and secure interface protocols. Validation activities identified no critical security deficiencies, and additional assessments are planned to further strengthen the system’s security posture.
“This effort demonstrates meaningful progress toward the development of interoperable and secure Open RAN solutions suitable for deployment in diverse operating environments,” said Eugene Wu, President and CEO of Microelectronics Technology Inc. “The collaboration among MTI, G REIGNS, and Microcom reflects the goals of the NOFO2 program to foster innovation and supplier diversity in the wireless ecosystem.”
The project will proceed to field trial activities, representing the next phase of validation under commercial operational conditions. The timing aligns with the upcoming summer and fall season in Alaska, enabling efficient execution of field evaluations. These efforts will inform final system optimization and support the transition toward commercial deployment.
“Our partnership with MTI and GREIGNS throughout this project has been exceptional” said Alexander Schumann, General Manager of Microcom. “It has been exciting to witness the development, integration, and testing of next generation 5G technology from the ground up. The performance and demonstrated capabilities of this solution have exceeded expectations and highlight the transformative potential of advanced wireless connectivity. As Microcom moves into Phase 2 field deployment activities, we are looking forward to bringing this technology into real-world environments across Alaska to support testing and trial scenarios in underserved and remote communities. These NOFO2 field trials will help demonstrate the practical capabilities of 5G technology for end users while also identifying new and innovative use cases for broadband connectivity in challenging service areas.”
“We are incredibly excited to reach this pivotal milestone alongside MTI and Microcom,” said Daniel Gong, General Manager of G REIGNS. “This successful validation is a powerful testament to the maturity of G REIGNS’ Open RAN software and our commitment to building an open, high-performance wireless future. By seamlessly integrating our CU/DU components with MTI’s radio technology and Microcom’s deep operational expertise, we aren’t just testing equipment—we are proving that a diverse, multi-vendor ecosystem can deliver the reliability and security required for real-world deployments. We look forward to taking this momentum into the field trials in Alaska and continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible under the NOFO2 program.”
